A Hewitt Oaks wedding is always something special, but Maddy and Paul’s colorful fall celebration was truly unforgettable. Set in the heart of the Lowcountry in Bluffton, SC, Hewitt Oaks remains one of my absolute favorite venues to photograph—and this day is a perfect example of why it’s one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the Southeast.
Maddy and Paul live in NYC but chose to host their wedding in South Carolina because of the deep sentimental value it holds in their relationship. From the moment the day began, there was an undeniable sense of joy, intention, and warmth woven into every detail. Their vision for a colorful, elegant Lowcountry wedding came together effortlessly against the timeless backdrop of Hewitt Oaks’ oak-lined grounds and refined Southern charm.
This Hewitt Oaks wedding kept us all on our toes—because it truly rained cats and dogs all day long. We were just minutes away from calling the rain plan and moving the ceremony indoors to the ballroom when a small miracle happened. Right at 5pm, the rain stopped. The clouds parted, and the sun emerged just in time for the ceremony. What followed was one of the most breathtaking moments I’ve ever witnessed at this venue: golden sunset light pouring through the trees, wrapping the couple and their guests in the most magical glow. It was cinematic, emotional, and absolutely worth the wait.
Photographing this day was a dream. A thoughtful mixture of film-inspired imagery and digital photography allowed me to document the day in a way that felt both nostalgic and modern—capturing the grandeur of the setting while preserving the in-between moments, laughter, and genuine emotion that unfolded so naturally. This wedding was truly a 10/10, and you can feel the love and joy radiating through every frame.
